RUOK Program
What is RUOK?
Are You Okay? (RUOK) is a telephone reassurance program that contacts subscribers once each day. It’s a totally FREE service offered to Watkinsville residents. There is no cost at all to any subscriber.
Is RUOK for me?
Do you live in the City of Watkinsville? If you are a senior citizen, if you are disabled, or you feel you would benefit from daily contact with the Watkinsville Police, then RUOK is for you.
How does it work?
When enrolling in the program we will set up a short interview with you. During this interview, we will gather some important information, including contact information for your family, friends, neighbors, physicians and/or clergy.
Then we will call you once each day. When you answer we will have brief conversation with you to verify your status. If the we don’t receive an answer, we will call back a short time later.
If we get no answer on the second attempt, we will then have an officer dispatched to your residence to check on you. If you do not answer, then we’ll attempt contact with your emergency point of contact, and if needed, we will enter your residence to check on you.
Why should I sign up for RUOK?
The program is designed to help us stay in touch with our seniors, disabled citizens, or others at risk and/or who may live alone. Many adult children of seniors already telephone their parents daily to check on their well-being. This program does the same thing as an added reassurance.
Who decides what time I am called?
When you complete the form for the program, you will decide when you will be called.
What if I go away on vacation?
No problem. Just call us at 706-769-5161 before you leave with the dates you will be gone. We will not call again until you return.
What if I have a doctor’s appointment?
That’s okay. Just give us a call 706-769-5161, so we can know not to call on that particular day.
